Daily Beta Blog

The Daily Beta Wiki. What is this place to be? (A little meta to start, but what the hey?)

I love the idea of a site dedicated to the review of beta software, especially one that takes the tack of realistic evaluation of that software. With the Web 2.0 hype machine at Warp 11, the concept of the Daily Beta is certainly alive and kicking. So, I believe the first step is to define what, exactly, the Daily Beta should strive to accomplish. For you corporate types, we need to pinpoint our synergies in order to maximize our potential. Let's distill our energies and draw laser focus on the newest and brightest around the Web.

Sorry, back into productivity mode.

Questions

Frequency: The name not withstanding, what is realistic for a production schedule? Can that schedule be accelerated with more staff? Where is the break-even point in the episodes out to contributors ratio?

Software: What does the Daily Beta consider software? Web apps seem well within the limits, but what about something like Digg or Basecamp? APIs? Drivers? There should be limits and expectations around what will and what will not be reviewed.

Cutoffs: What criteria have to be met to either include or exclude a piece of software? Time in the wild? Availability to non-public software (can a reader use the software)?

Format: Video or audio-only?

Distribution: How do we record and publish this bandwidth-intensive media?

Gimmick: Gotta have one. What's the Daily Beta's? Is it Valleywag meets Real Tech News? Nightline meets C|net? Reviews for geeks? Reviews for grandma? Both?
